Overview

Epic Adventurers presents ‘Original Classic Way to Everest Base Camp Trekking’ an adventure on a forgotten trail. At one time it was the one and only best route reaching high Khumbu around the Everest region. Since the airport was built at Lukla in 1964 by the first conqueror of Mt. Everest, the late Sir Edmund Hillary.

At present, the early route is less trekked, due to the length of the journey to reach Everest base camp. However, it is one of the wonderful walks visiting traditional villages around the Solu area, located south of Everest.

Original Classic Way to Everest Base Camp Trekking allows you much time to enjoy the local culture of age-old heritage. Walking on a serene trail away from the main flow of trekkers which you will notice higher up on reaching the Khumbu region.

The adventure begins with an exciting drive from Kathmandu heading east on the main Friendship Highway of Nepal and Tibet/China. Then our route diverts heading further east to reach Jiri town, well known as Switzerland of Nepal.

Located on a valley surrounded by green hills with a view of high snow-capped peaks of Gaurishankar and Melung Tse. Drive continues heading over the hills to reach a lovely area at Bhandar village the starting point of the trek.

From Bhandar village heading towards Sherpa country around Solu area, as walk leads to down and ups to Kenja. A nice village of mixed Nepalese tribes, from here uphill to cross Lamjura-La Pass, past Sherpa village of Sete. The walk leads within a beautiful forest of pines and rhododendron trees, the over Lamjura-La to Junbesi, a large village. Inhabited by the Sherpa community, one of the best villages of Solu area facing views of Numbur Himal in the north.

Trek continues with a climb towards Takshindo-La pass offers grand views of Khumbu peaks, then downhill to Nunthala another lovely village. After Nunthala village descends to Dudh Kosi River fed from the glaciers of Everest and adjoining peaks. A slow climb takes you closer towards the Everest region heading past Kharikhola and Surkhe villages to reach the high Khumbu area.

As the walk comes to a small village, where Jiri and Lukla trail meets on route to Namche and beyond. A great change from here onward coming across trekkers and yaks caravan, as walk follows Dudh Kosi River for sometimes.

A lovely walk continues entering Sagarmatha National Park, the name Sagarmatha for Mt. Everest in Nepal, the Sherpa call Chomolungma. The park is designated in World Heritage Sites enriched with flora/fauna with the world's highest peaks including Mt. Everest. On leaving Dudh Kosi River, the climb takes you on a winding scenic path to the famous Namche Bazaar, the hub of Khumbu.

At Namche Bazaar rest day for acclimatization a perfect height, as well Namche offers a wide range of short hikes. Spending a day in Namche, the adventure continues towards Everest base camp on a scenic trail facing grand views of snow-mountains.

The climb takes you to a beautiful spot at Tengboche with its impressive monastery, surrounded by an array of peaks and green woods. Herewith time for a tour of the monastery of great cultural and religious interest, and then towards our main highlight. Where walk leads to arid and barren mountainous landscapes, as green vegetation and trees give away for short juniper bush.

Adventure heads higher getting closer towards giant mountains with grand views of Ama Dablam and a range of peaks. The walk leads to nice settlements of Dingboche to reach Lobuche and Gorakshep, the last settlement before Everest base camp. After Gorakshep walk towards our major highlight of the adventure at the famous Everest base camp. Standing on the foot of the world highest peaks of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse, as well as close to Khumbu Ice-Fall.

Enjoying stupendous views of towering peaks, then on a return journey to Lukla with the last adventurous climb on top of Kalapathar hill. The highest spot of the adventure rewards a breathtaking panorama of Everest at close distance includes a wide range of Mountain View.

On achieving all the best highlights of Solu and Khumbu area, then heading back to Namche and onward to Lukla. The last final walk of the adventure ends at Lukla with overnight stops, before flying to Kathmandu. Early morning a scenic flight to Kathmandu, after a great adventure and experience on Original Classic Way to Everest Base Camp.

Important Note

Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse share the same base camp Mt. Lhotse stands as the world’s 4th highest at 8,516 m / 27, 940 feet.
The world's highest mountain is now officially a little higher. After years of debate, China and Nepal finally agreed on a precise elevation for Mount Everest. The new agreed height of 8,848.86 meters / 29,031.69 feet was announced at a virtual ceremony.

A Journey Through Time and Tradition

Choosing the classic route from Jiri to Everest Base Camp was the best decision! This trek allowed us to experience the quieter parts of Nepal, with charming villages like Junbesi and Khari Khola along the way. The trekking company’s organization was perfect, and our guide made sure we enjoyed every moment. The gradual rise in altitude helped a lot, and the final days, reaching Everest Base Camp and climbing Kalapatthar, were unforgettable highlights.

Experiencing the old way to EBC

The trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp was longer but absolutely worth it! It gave us a unique opportunity to see rural Nepal and avoid the crowds on the Lukla route. The guide and porters were amazing, providing excellent support and making sure we acclimatized properly. Passing through iconic places like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche Monastery made the journey even more special, and standing at Everest Base Camp was a dream come true
