Humla & Limi Valley Trekking region, where only a few groups of adventurers and trekkers seldom dare to venture. Due to its remote, isolated location far from the modern world of civilization, certainly a great adventure of three long weeks.
 
The main highlights of this wonderful trekking, besides its beautiful dramatic scenery of high valleys, hills, and mountains. Exploring lovely villages adorned with colorful culture of age-old heritage interwoven to Buddhism, observing simple farm life of cheerful villages. Make this adventure a mesmerizing holiday in the far hidden pockets of the great Himalayas and walking close to the Tibet border.
 
An adventure following the ancient Trans Himalaya Salt Trade and Caravan Route of Nepal and Tibet for some days. Crossing high passes to reach from one scenic valley to another in the harmony of tranquil mountain surrounding. 
 
Starting Humla & Limi Valley Trekking, taking a scenic flight from Kathmandu to land at the warm low city of Nepalgunj. Another short flight to the hills of Far West to land at Simikot, headquarter and administrative town of Mugu district.  
 
Simikot, starting and finishing point of our adventure, from here walk begins heading due north. Following the ancient Trans Himalaya Caravan route to the Tibet border, in the beginning, walking past nice farm villages of mid-hills. 

The low and mid-hills are populated mostly by Hindu tribes of people the Thakuri, Roka Chettries with Bharamins, and Dalits. As adventure reaches higher country coming across mountain tribes of strong Tibetan origin interwoven to Buddhism religion and fascinating culture. Walk follows to cross Nara-Lagna-La 5,000 m pass with close views of Tibetan landscapes as far towards holy Mt. Kailash. 

After days continues trek reaching Hilsa village, right on the frontier of Nepal and Tibet separated by the Karnali River. The river flows from the glaciers of holy Mt. Kailash in Tibet a day drive from across the Tibet border. Hilsa is a small village and a border, one of the major routes to Tibet for trade and pilgrimage. 
For both Hindu and Buddhist followers, from Hilsa adventure continues with a climb to Manepeme farm settlement and yak grazing area.
 
The adventure continues with a steep climb and downhill to scenic valleys and over high ridges around Yak summer pasture. Walk follows to the lovely village of Til and Halji one of the best places in the heart of Limi valley. Rest day within a wonderful location at Halji village, where one can explore and visit its old monastery.
 
From here on a return journey to Simikot, a walk leads to one of the highest passes of the adventure at Nyalu-La. A pass at 4,940 m high overlooking grand views of Api-Saipal peaks, slowly walk head down to mid-hills. As adventure slowly comes to an end on reaching back into green tree lines and farm villages. 
 
Finally, our adventurous trek completes at Simikot town, for an exciting flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. After a memorable experience and wonderful adventure on Humla & Limi Valley Trekking with the great service of Epic Adventures.

Please Note:
The above itinerary is a guideline where designated camp and overnight stops can change due to available of good camp site with fresh clean water and streams.
More or less it is a tented camping adventure setting camp in complete wilderness and around the village farm yard. Where hour of walk and places can differ sometime, as per the nature of the trail condition also.

Trip Itinerary

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner.

Morning or afternoon as per flight time for Nepalgunj, transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport and then checking in past security, board in a big plane for exciting flight facing grand panorama of Central and Western Himalayas. As the planes lands at Nepalgunj city airport, around low sub-tropical region of Nepal Far South West. Transfer to respective hotels with time for short walks around the city area to observe local life, here the people and culture similar to Indian, as Nepalgunj city is close to the border of UP a state of India.

From Nepalgunj another short flight to Simikot, at Simikot airport received by our trekking staff, Simikot the headquarter town of Mugu / Humla district located Far North West Nepal offers views of Mt Api and Saipal peaks. 

After a refreshing stop, and getting organized our first day walk starts from Simikot town, a walk of few hours to Dharapuri village, adventure continues with slow climb into farm fields of barley to reach forested ridge and then downhill towards Dharapuri for first overnight camping, around this nice farm village. 

Around far west region villages inhabited mostly by Thakuri people of Hindu religion, people around Mugu and Humla been in trade with Tibet for hundreds of years using same trail to Tibet border of some days walks.

Morning after breakfast with first overnight in tented camp, start the day with climb to cross a stream and then towards a last village inhabited mostly by Thakuri people, the mid-hill tribes of Western Nepal follows Hindu religion.

Walk continues past the end of rice terraces. As route leads with ups and down path around grazing area to cross Sally- Khola (stream) with views of beautiful waterfalls as walk ends to set up our overnight camp, close to Kermi village, and enjoy a refreshing time on the hot springs which an hour walk from the camp.

After a pleasant stop in a nice area for overnight camp, morning starts with climb through Yangar village on a nice stone paved path, then cross a suspension bridge over Humla Karnali River. As walk heads uphill to a stream past farm area with apricot garden then completing nice walk of the day reaching Muchu village for overnight camp, a small village with an old monastery and Police Check Post.

From Muchu, morning walk descend to Thumkot village, after a short break then climb begins heading away from Humla-Karnali River walking on a steep-sided narrow gorge. Walk continues for another few hour with slow climb to Torea village for overnight camp. A nice small farm area rest of the afternoon free at leisure and explore the village of mixed tribes of both Hindu and Buddhism religions.

Morning walk over a high ridge, as altitude gains as climb leads to a small ridge at 3,500 m high, from here countering the ridge line, facing views of Yari valley with high snow-capped peaks. After a short refreshing stop walk continues following an irrigation canal towards a wide valley of Jhyakthang Chu, marked with prayer walls as you enter into villages of Buddhist religion and culture with strong Tibetan influence. As the border to Tibet is close around this arid and barren country, after a good walk reach a moderate size village of Yari.

Walk continues with climb on a wide valley encountering group of traders, pilgrims coming or on the way to Tibet, after a few hour walk end the day at Sip-Sip a small place of cattle herders camp with some small shops.

Today walk leads to the close border village of Nepal and Tiber at Hilsa, morning starts with climb to Nara Lagna-La pass at 5,000 m the highest spot of the adventure. From the top of the pass catch views of Tibetan plateau with Humla Karnali River below and green barley fields of Sher or Sera, includes view of Api and Saiphal mountain range. After a short scenic stop, then downhill on dusty trail to Humla Karnali River to Hilsa village, a frontier post with few large tents and stone houses that serves as check-post, shops, tea-house and lodges within a large barley fields, across the bridge stands a stone pillar marking the Nepal-Tibet border.

On leaving Hilsa, to enter Limi valley area morning walk leads to cross a bridge on the other side of the river, where walk comes to a wide trail on a high slope. Walk follows Karnali River east till the trail ends at Manepeme a small settlement of Yak men. The path leads to a gradual climb with short steep ups and downs. As walk leads to Manepeme for overnight camp within dramatic landscape of bare, steep rocks with amazing natural colors.

On leaving Manepeme, morning walk climbs to winding uphill heading towards high and steep sided rocks. After few hours reaching a small path which is almost level for a while, and then reach an interesting cave of Ya Yip Phuk. 

A meditation cave of Lotsawa Rinchen Sangpo a famous Buddhist scriptures translator of 985-1055 A.D. From here walk around on grassy path with some juniper trees and bushes among the bare rock.

Our route heads to a climb for an hour to Lamka-La, a pass at 4,300 m, from the pass, and down to Til village for overnight stop, as walk come across Buddhist monument of Chorten (stupas) and the monastery. 

As the day ends on reaching Til, a nice looking village within a green surrounding with birch and willow trees and large terraces of barley, with views of twin snow-capped mountains and glaciers that stand high above this beautiful authentic Tibetan like village.

From here another lovely Halji village a short day walks, allows you enough time to explore the villages, monasteries. Walk follows the Limi River upstream on relatively flat trail. As walk enter the village enter the main gate then towards a huge Mani wall, with many stones in which holy mantra’s and Buddhist deities are carved. Overnight camp in the village yard or in a local guest house, with afternoon free at leisure.

Rest day In Halji, after more than a week hard and enjoyable trek, on this free day enjoy tour of the monastery, Rinchenling Gompa built in 14th Century, close to the village a medical clinic, a micro hydro power plant and solar plant built by Nepal Trust that you can visit as well.

After a pleasant rest at Halji, morning starts with moderate walk of four hours from Halji to Jang, following Limi Khola / stream to reach Jang for overnight stop. The third and last village around Limi Valley a magical place very special to be in such a secluded place where Tibetan culture still continues relatively untouched.

Morning leaving Limi Valley and typical Tibetan villages, from here onward into complete wilderness till walk takes you to Kermi, on route coming across Yak herders’ temporary settlement. Today the longest walk of the trip, as route leads to desolate landscapes. The trail heads up slowly but steadily, and feel the thin air which makes the walk slow till overnight camp is reached at a place called Talung around summer grazing area of Yaks and other high altitude cattle.

Another day of longer walks, as morning leads to one of the high pass leads to steep climb for some hours, but rewards you with fascinating spectacular views from the of Nyalu-La at 4,940 m. Sometimes the pass is covered in snow and ice, which makes the climb more challenging, from the pass enjoy wide 360 degree of Humla and Limi valley with Tibet wide plateau includes view of holy Mt. Kailash (6,714 m) towards Tibet. As well of Mt. Api (7,031 m) and Saipal with array of snow-capped peaks.
From the pass a steep descend to the lake of Selma-Tso at 4630 m high, walk continues on downhill following Salli River, then finally complete the day on reaching Shinjungma for overnight camp facing views of Mount Api and Saipal.

From here although a long day walk, reach you back to farm village at Kermi as morning walk drops below 3,000 m for first time after many days of trekking, 
a pleasant walk through pine and birch forest following Salli Khola / stream within rocky hill that towers on both sides of the trail. Walk towards Karnali River again and then heading east to Kermi village for overnight camp. A great place Kermi with time to relax your body in the hot springs, a great reward after a hard efforts with only a day to Simikot.

Last day trek of the adventure and quite a long day to reach Simikot town, the first part of the walk tol Darapuri and Majgaon on nice pleasant trail. From Majgaon a long climb of few hours above Karnali River to a pass at 3,000 m high. From the pass a short distance walk to Simikot for last overnight stop around Mugu and Humla area.

After a wonderful adventure around Humla & Limi Valley, morning after breakfast walk to the air terminal and then board in a small aircraft for flight to Nepalgunj.

On reaching Nepalgunj within warmer climate, as per time for another connecting flight after a short transit then board in a bigger plane for flight back to Kathmandu facing superb panorama of Himalayan peaks.

As plane lands at Kathmandu airport, a short transfer back to your hotels after an enjoyable time on the high hills and mountains of Far Western Nepal.
