Epic Adventures presents an exciting high altitude Amphu-Labtsa & Honku Valley Trekking, where the adventure takes you over 5,845 meters. At Amphu-Labtsa La Pass a traverse from Honku area to Imjatse valley and beyond around Everest region.

The highest pass of the adventure and probably in whole Himalaya, a glaciated pass placed in serac cliffs. Right at the head of Honku valley, provides a way out towards Imjatse, Hinku areas, from this isolated Honku valley. The base of the high pass within Honku valley has several glacial lakes, the Panch Pokhari or Five Sacred Lakes.  

The adventure begins with a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airport, the gateway town to various treks and climbs around Khumbu. The walk takes you away from Lukla and villages towards remote mountain wilderness in the shade of high Himalayan peaks.

Climb over a steep ridge to cross Kalo / Naulekh Himal and Zatwar-La Pass towards the hidden valley of Hinku. Covered in a temperate forest of firs, pines, oaks, and rhododendron trees and grazing pasture for yaks and other local cattle.

A pleasant walk within tranquil surroundings coming across several temporary shelters of cattle herders at Thuli-Kharka and Thangnak. As well as having rest days for short leisure hike to support acclimatization, and then heading towards arid and barren terrain.

From here into dramatic country landscapes within artic zone of remorseless fields covered in moraine, ice, and glaciers. As adventure leads in the heart of giant peaks enclosed by giant peaks, close to the base of Mera Peak.
One of the famous and popular trekking peaks, as our route, diverts to cross over Mera-La pass towards hidden Honku valley. Located on route to Makalu, Baruntse areas as well to Imjatse valley and Island Peak base camp.

Honku valley is surrounded by Baruntse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam with Amphu Peaks this beautiful valley treasures five glacial ponds. Spending exciting days around Honku valley, walk heads towards our main highlight of the adventure to cross Amphu-Labtsa La Pass. Before heading for the big climb and descend, full preparation and precaution will be undertaken, checking the best accessible route.

Our expert guide and staff will make all necessary arrangements to make the path safe and secure to cross. Starting early morning for the big climb and on the highest point of the adventure on top Amphu-Labtsa La Pass. 

At 5, 845 m / 19, 176 feet, facing a breathtaking panorama of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse in the north. Facing Baruntse Himal with Makalu towards south and east with majestic Ama Dablam and Island Peak close from the pass. 

The climb of technical effort to reach on top Amphu Labtsa-La, and then all staff and members will be roped. A long descend abseiling to reach the bottom of a pass at Imjatse valley close to Island Peak base camp.

After a safe successful climb and descend, the rest of the walk is easier on leaving Honku valley. As the walk proceeds reaching back into human settlement and civilization at Chukung and Dingboche, located within scenic Imjatse valley.

Dingboche is a large settlement with many good lodges, located on route to Everest and Island Peak base camps. Our route leads south downhill on the main busy trail of Namche Bazaar and Everest base camp.  

Walk past Pangboche villages to reach up at Tengboche, situated on a high ridge amidst a lovely forest surrounding. A picturesque spot encircled by an array of snow peaks with excellent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and magnificent Ama Dablam.

At Tengboche with time for a tour of the famous colorful monastery enriched with the age-old cultural heritage of great religious interest. After an enjoyable time downhill walk to Namche Bazaar, a large village almost a size of a town. 
 
Namche is the main hub of Khumbu Sherpa’s as well for visitors, where one can find all kinds of facilities. From big nice hotels, restaurants, banks, as well bakeries, pubs, and bars where one can celebrate any type of occasion. 

Slowly, adventure comes to an end on reaching Lukla, after walking past Sagarmatha National Park, Monjo, and Phakding villages.

At Lukla for the last overnight around high Khumbu within the Everest region, next morning a scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu. After a mesmerizing adventure and wonderful experience on Amphu-Labtsa & Honku Valley Trekking with great services of Epic Adventures.

Trip Itinerary

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner. 

A day in Kathmandu for trek preparation and tour at places of great interest around best historical and cultural places. Our city tour guide will take you to famous areas listed in World Heritage Sites and then back to hotel after a wonderful time at sightseeing tour with time for preparation for next day adventure to Amphu Labtsa & Hongu Valley Trekking.

Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for short scenic flight to Lukla, a smaller model aircraft (Twin Otter or Dornier) enjoy 30 minutes flight overlooking Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest.

On landing at Lukla small airstrip named Tenzing - Hillary airport, from Lukla few hour walks to Chutanga for overnight stop in tented camp, a small temporary settlement on route to Mera Peak, Hinku and Honku Valley amidst beautiful forest surroundings.

After overnight stop in Chutanga, morning continues with steep climb to cross Kalo Himal or Nau-Lekh, a rocky high ridge which forms a boundary of Dudh Kosi River area and Hinku, Honku valleys with Makalu region. 

Trek leads over he first pass with steep climb to a high ridge festooned with Buddhist prayer flags at 4,450 m, the pass called Zatrwa Og, and Zatrwa-La with views across Dudh Kosi River valley with Karyolung and Lumding Himal.

From here descend to Thuli-Kharka for overnight camp within hidden areas of Hinku valley.

From Thuli-Kharka, morning starts with downhill facing views of Peak 43 and Kusum Kanguru peaks, and then into heart of Hinku area, with stunning South Face views of Mera Peak, as walk leads into rhododendron and pine forest on gradual forested path to Mosum Kharka near Hinku Drangka River.

After Mosum Kharka walk continues on leaving the forest to reach a wide open valley within a pasture field with Yak herder huts at Gondishung, close to Thangnak area. A place with small wooden huts and shelters of stone wall enclosures. Gondishung a small place with 200 years old small Buddhist shrine. From here walk continues for another hour to overnight camp at Thangnak, a small yak herder’s settlement with few tea houses and small lodges.

A free day at leisure an important to have rest day for acclimatization before heading towards higher terrain. On this day enjoy short hike to view points for best looks of Mera and surrounding high peaks.

From Thangnak, morning starts with moderate walk for few hours with scenic views around Hinku valley, as trail follows on leaving vegetation and tree line behind. As route comes across a moraine towards a Charpatti Tal (Lake), walk continues to a high terrain lined with cairns overlooking the glacial pond. Where path splits to Honku valley and Mera Peak base camp, as our walk diverts with short climb and then short descend to our camp site at Kongme Dingma. Located on route to Mera-La and Honku valley.

Today’s walk follows a small path with gradual climb, as trail leads over steep sides moraine and rocky glacier, and then towards an old and recent moraine deposits. As walk continues to enter Honku valley and Panch Pokhari means five ponds, where our camp is set for overnight at an altitude of 5,035 m high.

A necessary rest day as well for acclimatization and preparation for the last final climb on the highest pass of the adventure. Panch Pokhari a glacial ponds which is close to Baruntse Himal, and on route to Makalu and Barun valley via Sherpani Col. As well leads to our main direction towards Imjatse valley near Island Peak base camp.

A short morning walk of few hours to the base of Amphu Labtsa-La Pass and the peak itself. From Panch Pokhari trail leads on gradual path with short climb over moraine and rocky terrain, as walk leads to ice sections and crossing small frozen streams to Amphu-Labtsa base for the last camp, around Honku valley.

Rest of the afternoon free for short hike around this remote isolated corners of eastern Himalayas. Where our guides will check the route of Amphu Labtsa-La Pass, and fixing ropes where necessary on few technical sections for safe climb and descent towards Imjatse Valley.

Today the Big Day! Of the adventure, starting early as possible on clearing the camp head for a steep climb for few hours on rocky and ice ledges. As climb continues till you reach on top of the pass, enjoy the hard effort overlooking grand panorama of surrounding giant peaks of Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam with Everest and Lhotse.

After a tough steep climb and checking all members including staff and porters are safe and in sound health, having a short rest then descend abseiling on fixed ropes towards the bottom of the pass. On reaching at the base of Amphu Labtsa continue walk heading towards an ablation valley by the side of Imjatse Glacier. Where Imja-Tse valley starts from a place called Parsya Gyab near Island Peak Base Camp for overnight camp.

From the camp at Parsya Gyab around Island Peak and Imjatse valley, walk is easier with short ups and downs over rocky moraine and icy path, heading towards a small settlement at Chukung for lunch. Afternoon and easy walk of few hours on the wide Imjatse valley to Dingboche for overnight stop in the comfort of nice lodges, from here onwards overnights accommodation and meals in lodge and tea-houses all the way to Lukla.


On leaving Dingboche with super views of Amadablam, Nuptse and Lhotse, then downhill back to lower altitude within tree lines, as walk leads past Pangboche reaching a bridge where an hour climb brings you at scenic Tengboche Monastery for overnight stop. A beautiful place amidst lovely forest of pines, rhododendron and firs trees surrounded by an array of snow peaks facing view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. At Tengboche afternoon visit the monastery of great religious and colorful cultural interest.

Morning enjoy the glorious panorama of snow mountains, as walk begins with downhill to Imjatse River at Phunge tenga, after crossing a bridge a short uphill for an hour, and then on gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar for overnight stop. At Namche with various facilities that one can enjoy, take a stroll around the street of Namche Bazaar lines with many shops and stores with fancy restaurants and fresh bakeries.

Last day walk of the adventure, morning starts with downhill to Dudh Kosi River, and then on pleasant trail crossing bridges to Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo village. From here walk follows to Phakding for short refreshing break or lunch stop. From here few hours walk to Lukla for final overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest region.

Morning as per the flight time walk to Lukla or Tenzing & Hillary airport, and then board in a small aircraft for exciting scenic flight to Kathmandu, and then short drive back into city life of Kathmandu. On reaching your hotel rooms, rest of the day free at leisure.

Spare day for contingency in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla or in the beginning from Kathmandu, might happens sometimes due to unfavorable bad weather which is quite normal as Himalayan weather can be unpredictable even in best time of the seasons for trekking. 

As things goes well, as per the itinerary days, enjoy the free day for individual activities or join in for another exciting sightseeing tour of other interesting places like Patan and Bhaktapur worth a visit.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, as per your international flight time our staff and guide will accompany you for a short drive to international airport for final departure, after a memorable adventure and experience on Amphu-Labtsa & Honku Valley Trekking around amazing Nepal Himalaya.
