Soon after the devastating earthquakes last year, the tourism Industry leapt into action to mitigate damage.
As a result, tourists kept visiting the country to enjoy its natural beauty even as aftershocks continued to jolt the country.
Although, no one expects to meet an accident, tourists are required to buy travel insurance to ensure that in case there is an accident during their travel, they would be compensated.
Travel insurance covers losses that may be incurred while travelling, such as medical expenses, flight cancellations, lost luggage, etc.
But tourism entrepreneurs claim that some travellers were facing problems in getting compensation after accidents during their tour.
Just a couple months ago, a group of 12 Australians came to Nepal for trekking. The trek started from Kathmandu to Ganesh Himal Region. They reached Phulkharka in Dhading to visit local villagers and see rebuilding of a secondary school.
According to Shreeram Adhikari, a tourism entrepreneur, the concrete roof of a building collapsed injuring three Australian George Hendry, Peter Levey and Alex Miller and a Nepali guide Hari Bahadur Thapa.
Hendry’s insurance company allegedly refused their accident claim whereas Levey and Miller’s companies paid full insurance money, he informed.
“With this experience, we have come to know that not all Insurance companies abroad are reliable. So before you backpack for your holiday, be very careful with the insurance company you go with and their terms and conditions,” Adhikari suggested.
