Overview

‘An adventure in the heart of massive Annapurna Himalaya range’
Tent Peak is also known by local name as Tharpu Chuli, as listed with NMA 
(Nepal Mountaineering Association). Tent Peak was named due to its appearance like a tent, looking from the Annapurna Sanctuary or Annapurna base camp. 

The name Tent Peak was tagged by early pioneers’ way back in the 1960’s and remains as it is to the present day. Tent Peak- Tharpu Chuli Trek & Climb leads right in the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary and beyond Annapurna base camp.  

Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli, one of the famous and popular peaks at 5,663 m /18,580 feet high. The climbing grade is PD + (per Difficule) the grading system used from 
French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification. 

A straightforward climb to the summit, with some technical effort to encounter where climbers require full climbing gear. A trekking peak for all interested adventurers as well for beginners, a perfect small mountain of the great technical challenge. Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli the shortest climbing adventure of less than two week duration, which make the climb popular. 

The Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli, located within the picturesque Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed by an array of a high snow mountain range.
The adventure begins from beautiful Pokhara, a city situated in Nepal Mid-West blessed with the natural beauty of snow peaks and lakes. From Pokhara an exciting drive to the starting point of the trek, and then walk leads uphill past farm villages.

As climb progress reaching Chomrong, a large Gurung village as well the last permanent settlement on route to Annapurna Sanctuary. 
After Chomrong with ups and downhill path to enter Modi River gorge, covered in dense forest. Lined with tall rhododendron, oaks, pines trees, and bamboo as the walk continues past several small temporary settlements with few lodges.

The walk continues higher up on leaving the river gorge to enter a wide scenic valley at Annapurna Sanctuary. Slowly adventure takes you at Annapurna Base Camp an exciting spot amidst towering peaks, located right beneath Mt. Annapurna-I. From here our true adventure starts on leaving Annapurna Base Camp towards our main highlight of the journey. The walk leads to cross over Annapurna glacier then reaching the base of Tent Peak or Tharpu Chuli.

At Tent Peak base camp with time for acclimatization as well practice climb on ice and rock wall. To make the climb safe and successful adding one higher camp right at the bottom of Tent Peak. From the high camp starting early morning following our lead guide, then head for the big climb over ice and snow. 

The adventure leads towards few technical sections and then finally reaching on top Tent Peak, after a tough strenuous climb. Enjoy the grand sweeping panorama of high snow-clad mountains that encircles the summit of Tent Peak. 

The view includes the Annapurna Himalaya range with towering Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail peak as far towards Dhaulagiri Himal.

Best seasons for Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli Trek & Climb:
The best time for Tent Peak Climb is in spring from March to May and autumn to pre-winter from mid-September to November months.
 
Springtime from March to May is one of the most favorable seasons, most days are fine and clear for views and pleasant walks. The afternoon can get cloudy with chances of rain sometimes, chances of snow from Deurali onwards above 3,000 m high. Morning and late afternoon till night time can be cold on higher areas but days with longer sun-light hours.
 
The next best time in autumn and pre-winter is from September to November, where days are crystal clear for views and walks. Days are much shorter with sun-light hours, can be freezing cold in the morning, late afternoon, and nighttime around the higher area from above 1,900 m, can get snow above 3,000 m high.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the climb and trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner.

Day 2 : Tour of Kathmandu UNESCO heritage sites of great interest.

A day in Kathmandu for trek preparation and tour at places of great interest around best historical and cultural places. Our city tour guide will take you to famous areas listed in World Heritage Sites and then back to hotel after a wonderful time at sightseeing tour with time for preparation for next day trek to Annapurna base camp and climb of Tent Peak-Himal Chuli. 

Day 3 : Fly or drive to Pokhara 822 m -06 hours (30 mins by air).

Morning as per size of a group a drive either in a car, coach or in regular tourist bus, ride takes you on Kathmandu-Pokhara highway. An interesting drive where one can witness lively scenery of Nepal beautiful landscapes with farm villages and towns. As drive continues views of distant snow mountain range and then finally reach Pokhara. A scenic city in the shadow of Annapurna and Manaslu Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal the famous Fish Tail Peak.

On arrival at Pokhara, check in a nice hotel for overnight stop located near the Phewa Lake side with time for leisure stroll around lined with fancy shops, stores, restaurants and many nice hotels.

Day 4 : Drive to starting point and trek to Chomrong 1, 951 m - 06 hrs.

Enjoy hearty breakfast and then an exciting morning drive of few hours to reach the starting point of the trek. A scenic ride as you leave Pokhara city outskirt following the Pokhara-Baglung highway with excellent views of Annapurna Himalaya. An area of low warm climate with vast farm land as drive diverts from the main road, then follow the Modi River upstream to reach the trekking point.

With time to get organized, where our guide will sort out the baggage to be carried by our strong porters. Start the first day walk with climb past Jhinu village to reach Chomrong a large village, populated by Gurung people the main tribe of Annapurna Himalaya region, overnight in a nice lodge with grand views of Annapurna peaks and lovely landscape.

Day 5 : Trek to Dovan 2, 130 m via Bamboo 2,050 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight halt in the last village at Chomrong, morning a short descend to a river, with climb to a Sinuwa ridge a place with few lodge and shops as walk continues on winding path through cool shade of rhododendron and pine forest with short down-hill to a small settlement at Bamboo. Located amidst bamboo stalks and pine trees with 4-5 simple lodge. From here few hours climb on gradual up to reach our overnight stop at Dovan a place with few nice lodges, situated in a gorge above Modi River.

Day 6 : Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,720 m -06 hrs.

From Dovan, adventure begins in the morning with climb within dense alpine forest, as walk takes you to a small place at Himalaya close to a large overhanging cave called Hinko. From here a short down and up to Deurali for lunch break, and then continue following the Modi River upstream to Machhapuchare Base Camp for overnight stop also known as MBC for short. A scenic spot perched on a high ridge right beneath majestic Machhapuchare Himal / Fish Tail North Face.

Day 7 : Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m - 04 hrs.

Morning from MBC, a short day walk of less than 4 hours to Annapurna Base Camp, the main highlight and highest spot of the adventure. A slow morning climb to enter a plateau enclosed within array of high snow peaks, as walk reach you at Annapurna base camp the only base camp in whole Himalaya with facilities of a nice cozy lodge, where rooms faces amazing views of mountain scenery.

At ABC for lunch and overnight halt, enjoy rest of the afternoon with fantastic views of Annapurna group of peaks with towering wall of Mt. Annapurna-1, world tenth highest and first 8,000 m mountain conquered way back in 1950’s by French Expedition. 

Day 8 : Trek to Tent peak Base Camp 4,450 m / 14,600 feet - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant and exciting time at Annapurna Base Camp, morning leads north to our final destination at Tent Peak base camp. Walk starts on leaving ABC towards complete mountain wilderness, away from main trekking path.

As walk heads down to Annapurna glacier to cross over snow-covered moraine and rocky faint path, and then climb to other side of the glacier. Walk on rocky path crossing few small icy stream towards a small flat available space to set our tented camp for Tent Peak climb, afternoon at leisure preparation for the climb.

Day 9 : Rest day preparation for the climb as well for acclimatization.

At base camp an extra day for acclimatization and to study the route of climb to the summit of Tent Peak. With time for preparation and enjoy short practice exercise climbing on near ice and rock wall as well checking you new climbing gear.

Day 10 : Trek to High Camp 4,850 m- 02 hrs.

To make the climb safe and successful adding an extra High Camp before the big haul to the summit of Tent Peak. From the base camp climb further north-east as climb leads to steep path over rocks and glaciers, and finding a suitable level ground to pitch our high camp at the height of 4,850 m. After setting the camp and having lunch, full preparation for the climb here our guide will scout the area for possible safe and east accessible route to the top of Tent Peak.

Day 11 : Climb Tharpu Chuli (Summit Day) 5,695m -Tent Peak and return to base camp - 08 hrs.

Our Big Day of the adventure, leaving the camp early morning following the guide to a steep climb on snow and ice slope. Climb continues facing technical sections guide will make the climb accessible fixing ropes on necessary area for safe climb to the summit. The strenuous climb finally ends on reaching on top Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli, enjoy the grand vista of mountain range that surround you on the top facing all of Annapurna group of peaks with Gangapurna Himal at close distance. After a joyous moments on reaching the summit of Tent Peak, descent is made on the same safe route to base camp.

Day 12 : Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp - 05 hrs.

Morning after breakfast from the camp, as well clean up the base camp and carry all the garbage to designated disposal site on the way to Chomrong. After packing up and cleaning the camp, walk back to Annapurna Base Camp walking on icy path for some hours then climb towards Annapurna base camp overnight in the comfort of nice cozy lodge.

Day 13 : Trek to Bamboo 2,050 m - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful time and mesmerizing experience around and beyond Annapurna base camp with glorious views. Return journey on the same way back to Bamboo, a long downhill with short climb then reach the overnight halt in a nice small lodge amidst lovely forest surrounding.

Day 14 : Trek to Jhinu-Danda a place with hot spring 1, 700 m - 06 hrs.

Enjoy breakfast and then a short climb with gradual trail all the way to Sinuwa Danda, after a short break descend to Chomrong River where you climb for less than an hour to reach at Chomrong for possible lunch stop.

After Chomrong a short down to Jhinu Danda, a lovely village with many good lodge located on a high ridge, enjoy the afternoon in a refreshing hot spring pool located half hour down from the lodge.

Day 15 : Short last day walk and drive to Pokhara 822 m- 05 hrs.

Today our great walk ends as morning leads to a bridge and then board in vehicle for exciting drive following the river all the way at Nayapul, from here back on good road as drive continues past many farm villages and town to reach Pokhara by the lake side for last overnight stop in the shade of massive Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 16 : Fly or drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Morning after a good breakfast an overland on the same scenic highway, where drive takes you past farm country, villages and towns as journey continues on leaving the Trisuli River behind where drive takes you on winding up to reach the suburb of Kathmandu valley. Enjoy the last hour drive as you enter into hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

Day 17 : International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, as per your international flight time our staff and guide will accompany you for a short drive to international airport for final departure, after a memorable and fabulous adventure on Tent Peak-Tharpu Chuli Trek & Climb around amazing Nepal Himalaya.
