The trekking region, located close to the old Trans Himalaya Salt Trade and Caravan Route of Nepal and Tibet / China. Still exists to this day as one of the major routes for the trade of both countries.

The Langtang Himal of Central Himalaya range extends to the Ganesh and Jugal Himal range, home of ethnic Tamang. The mountain tribes of Nepal Himalaya migrated from Inner Mongolia through Tibet with a history of more than 100 centuries. Visitors can observe the local way of life of great cultural interest interwoven to Tibetan Buddhism and ancient Bon religion.  

Tamang Heritage Trail, situated on the mid-hills in between Ganesh and Langtang Himal, is the closest mountain range from Kathmandu valley. Views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal peaks can be seen from Kathmandu city on a clear fine day.

An interesting adventure to explore around the villages of Tamang enriched with age-old custom, quite similar to Tibetan predecessor.

Tamang Heritage Trail Homestay Trekking, begins with an interesting overland journey from Kathmandu to Dhunche, headquarter town of Rasuwa district.
Drive leads further west to Syabrubesi village, from here within Tamang territories, as the walk starts uphill into the lovely forest. Past farm fields and terraces into a cooler area to Gatlang, one of the largest villages of Rasuwa area.
Located on a scenic valley enclosed by high hills and towering peaks of Ganesh Himal with wide farm fields. 

At Gatlang tour of old monastery treasures ancient idols, artifacts of a tall statue of Buddha and other famous saints, gurus. Explore the village of colorful culture, the Tamang people skilled in craftsmanship and singing mountain folk songs and dance. From Gatlang walk to Tatopani village a place with a natural hot spring for a refreshing bath, continue trek to the next destinations. 

The walk leads close to the Tibet border at Thuman village, crossing high Nagethali pass above 3,300 m / 10, 826 feet. From the top fabulous views of rolling green hills with snow-mountain range towards Ganesh in the west with Langtang Himal.

After being on the highest spot of the adventure, descend to Briddim another lovely farm village for an overnight stop. At Briddim in the comfort of community Homestay small cottage, with lively evening cultural folk program as entertainment. Provided by the local Tamang community of Briddim and nearby villages followed by a nice typical Nepalese dinner. Enjoying wonderful time around high hill villages, finally, the walk comes to a near end as the route follows back at Syabrubesi village.   

In Syabrubesi village for last overnight around Langtang Himal and Rasuwa district, next morning an exciting drive to Kathmandu. At Kathmandu Tamang Heritage Trail Homestay Trekking completes, after a mesmerizing experience and adventure around the high hills of Langtang Himal.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner.

Day 2 : Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Start our adventure with interesting drive towards Langtang Himal area, journey takes you past lovely farm villages and town, from warm climate of Trisuli Bazaar to cooler Himalaya hills at Dhunche, the headquarter town of Rasuwa district and the entrance of Langtang National Park, the first mountainous park of Nepal established in the mid-1970. Famous for rare flora / fauna and habitat of endangered Red Panda. From Dhunche on downhill to Syabrubesi village for first overnight stop around Langtang Himal area.

Day 3 : Trek to Gatlang 2,236 m - 05 hrs.

First day walk starts from Syabrubesi village, morning route follows avoiding the main road. On leaving the outskirt of Syabrubesi village on an old walking trails with short climb for short while. Rest of the walk on gradual winding path through terraced farm fields and small villages, then finally ending the day walk on reaching a large Gatlang village for overnight stop. Before entering into the village the villagers greets with warm traditional welcome offering with Buddhist prayer silk scarf called ‘Khada’. After a welcome ceremony transfer into a nice small cottage built for visitors as Home Stay run and managed by the local village community.

Day 4 : Rest day to explore the local culture at Gatlang village.

Enjoy the free day after first day of walking, as this is the main village around Rasuwa and Langtang area. The best place observe local immense culture, explore around Gatlang village and experience the traditional farm life and cultures of great interest. Visit the old impressive monastery treasures great religious arts and vivid bright paintings with idols of Lord Buddha with other great Gurus and saints. The Buddhism followed by Tamang of similar heritage to its predecessor the Tibetans as well of Mongolian.

Day 5 : Trek to Tatopani 2, 605 m - 05 hrs.

Morning enjoy grand views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal range, as walk starts with gradual climb into woodland to Tatopani a small village for overnight stop. 

The village with natural hot spring or 'Tatopani’ where Nepalese visitor enjoys a dip in the warm pool, as well trekkers can have a good refreshing time. After an enjoyable dip in the hot-spring with time to explore around this quiet farm village.

Day 6 : Trek to Thuman 2,239 m via Nagethali 3, 300 m - 05 hrs.

From Tatopani village, walk leads to a slow climb on the highest spot of the journey at Nagethali Danda 3,300 m, the top within an open grassland with amazing views of Central Himalayan peaks. Route follows to a village at Brimdang for lunch stop in one its nice small huts serves as a restaurant.

Afternoon walk leads to gradual ascent to the top of Nagethali Danda, the high ridge offers glorious panorama of Langtang Lirung, Kerung (border town of Nepal and Tibet), Ganesh Himal, and Shisapangma which is in Tibet side, with the Sanjen Ranges before you. Spending marvelous time enjoying the dramatic scenery, then head down about 900 m through deep woodlands to Thuman village. A lovely village for overnight halt, facing views of Mt. Shisapangma and Langtang Lirung peaks, around this area strong distinct Tibetan flavor can be felt with Bon sect of pre-Buddhism, a Shamanistic beliefs. Here enjoy tour of ancient monasteries and houses covered in woodcarvings.

Day 7 : Trek to Bridim 2,235 m - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant stop in Thuman village enriched with great Tamang culture of age-old heritage. Morning walk starts through rhododendron forests and meadows to reach the Tamang village of Bridim, located in the heart of the Langtang Himal. After climbing over a high hill for more than two hours to Bridim village for last overnight on Tamang Heritage Trail.

A nice village to experience the lodge with Homestay facilities, run by a local family, overnight in a comfortable wooden rooms. Here visitors can interact to gain a richer understanding of the culture, plus a chance to share stories with the host.

Day 8 : Trek to Syabrubesi - 05 hrs.

From Bridim last day walk to Syabrubesi village as route follows around scenic landscapes, walking through cool woodland as trail follows a stream and then the day ends on reaching Syabrubesi village for last overnight around Langtang Himal and within the land of Tamang indigenous tribes of Central Himalaya.

Day 9 : Drive to Kathmandu via Dhunche- 06 hrs.

After a marvelous experience around Rasuwa and Tamang Heritage Trail, morning drive on winding ups to Dhunche town. From here downhill to low warm farm areas and villages. Drive continues around Nuwakott district at Trisuli Bazaar for possible lunch stop, and then another hour of good drive brings you to hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu to reach back to your hotel.

Day 10 : International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, as per your international flight time our staff and guide will accompany you for a short drive to international airport for final departure, after a memorable wonderful experience on Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking around amazing Nepal Himalayas.
