Shivapuri Hill Hike, a refreshing country walk on the valley rim of Kathmandu the closest hill covered in dense forest. The area Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the 9th park of Nepal established in 2002. Located around Kathmandu valley mid-hills on the northern fringe and named after Shivapuri high hill at 2,732 m altitude. The Park area also falls under Shivapuri Watershed Development Board and was later declared as Shivapuri Wildlife Reserve also.

A great way to spend a day to breathe fresh country air, in the harmony of green dense vegetation. As well a lovely walk with a steep climb provides you some exercise before planning your next adventure around the high Himalayas.
The area around Shivapuri is also famous and popular for bird watching, as well as for other elusive wildlife. An amazing place so close to the bustling city and yet it seems far due to its fresh green countryside.
The walk to the top of Shivapuri Hill rewards marvelous bird-eye views of Kathmandu city and the valley. Along with an exciting panorama of snow peaks towards north facing Ganesh and Langtang with Jugal Himal range. 
The walk leads within its pristine tranquil surrounding chances of spotting some wildlife such as leopard, jungle cat, and rhesus monkey. 

The Shivapuri area is also home to various species of birds, includes at least nine endangered butterflies. On the way back visit the Buddhist Nagi Gompa and a nunnery of great religious and cultural interest. After a wonderful day around Shivapuri descend back to the park entrance and exit, and then drive back to your hotel.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Hiking Day

Depart from the hotel after breakfast by 7 a.m. depending upon group size either in a car or coach. Where drive takes you straight north beyond the city suburb towards a holy Narayanthan / Buddhanilkantha temple. A Hindu temple with an image of sleeping Vishnu around a pool on a bed of serpent. From here a short drive to the entrance of Shivapuri National Park, your guide will get the entrance tickets.

The walk starts on a gradual path in the cool shade of forest than an uphill climb for a few hours. Hike through dense vegetation, tall trees to the top of Shivapuri Hill on route facing grand views of Kathmandu valley. On reaching the highest spot at Shivapuri Hill enjoy grand views of snow peaks of Ganesh, Langtang, and Jugal Himal. After a wonderful moment around a serene environment downhill to the park exit, with time for a short tour of the Buddhist monastery. Nagi Gompa a nunnery an interesting and peaceful spot to visit, and then walk to the car park.

An hour or less drive reach you to the hotel, after a wonderful day on Shivapuri Hill Hike.
