Overview

Epic Adventurers present Everest Three High Passes Trekking, an adventure that covers the most beautiful areas of high Khumbu and Everest.

A great way to enjoy this scenic walk, although it involves high altitude above 5,000 meters passes. But every step you take rewards you with breathtaking views of the world’s highest peaks, as well as walking through lovely cultural villages.

Everest Three High Passes Trekking can be done with two options choosing the route clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. We have set the itinerary starting this wonderful adventure anti-clockwise, which allows enough time to get acclimatize before heading higher.

Due to the nature of high-altitude treks, where walk leads to a rough, rugged path with a strenuous climb. Includes long steep descends, where all trekkers need to be physically fit and in good health, and with a positive attitude. So that trekkers can enjoy the whole adventure of great thrill and experience walking around the highest region of Nepal Himalayas.

Our wonderful adventure to Everest Three High Passes trekking starts with a sweeping short scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. A famous town with an amazing airport and runways, where most adventure around Khumbu begins and ends in Lukla town.

Walk from Lukla follows on a gradual trail through lovely Sherpa villages adorned with Buddhist monuments of stupa and prayer walls. As trek progress spending nights in the comfort of nice lodges, then towards famed Namche Bazaar following Dudh Kosi River. Before climbing to Namche Bazaar, trek leads to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, listed as a world heritage site.

From the park entrance within a lovely forest of pines, firs, and rhododendron as the walk continue leaving the river behind. A long climb reaches you at Namche Bazaar, the main hub of Khumbu villagers, as well as for trekkers. 

Namche Bazaar is almost a size of a town with various facilities for visitors as well as for local villagers. Like banks, ATMs, many shops, and well-stocked stores where once a week a busy Saturday market takes place. An interesting place with nice hotels, lodges, and restaurants in the close backdrop of Kongde and Tharmasarku peaks. 

Namche Bazaar is a popular place for rest and acclimatization days at
3,440 m, with various view-points for a short hike. After a pleasant rest at Namche adventure carries on facing grand views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Climb within the beautiful alpine forest to the famous Tengboche, a scenic spot with a nice monastery surrounded by an array of snow peaks. 

From Tengboche spending wonderful time with grand views of Mt. Everest and adjoining high peaks, the adventure continues heading further north. 

The walk takes away from green vegetation and tall tree lines towards absolute mountain wilderness past the last village of Pangboche. As the route heads east to enter a scenic Imjatse valley at Dingboche, a lovely settlement with many good lodges. Dingboche is located right beneath the North Face of majestic Ama Dablam with super views of Island Peak, Nuptse, and Lhotse.

Here onward our real adventure starts heading to a last small settlement at Chukung enclosed within towering peaks. Next, early morning heading towards our first and the highest pass to cross over Kongma-La at 5,535 m.

The climb takes you into a gorge in between giant Nuptse and Pokalde peaks, a steady up to reach Kongma-La. The pass with nearest peak Mehara or Kongma, and then descend towards Lobuche crossing Khumbu glacier with rocky moraines.   
After Lobuche, the next adventure leads you to the heart of Everest at base camp right beneath Mt. Everest. Enjoy the dramatic and stupendous views of Khumbu Ice Fall and surrounding giant peaks, a great spot to experience.

From Everest Base Camp climb takes you to the highest point of the adventure on top of Kalapathar rocky hill. The hard climb rewards with a mind-blowing panorama of the giant mountain range with the nearest views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Pumori. 

On completing our first target and highlights, the next adventure takes you to the base of Cho-La pass at Dzongla. Situated on isolated corners above Pheriche valley with close views of Taboche and Cholatse peaks, with few small lodges.
Early morning a steep climb on a rocky trail to reach Cho-La, the pass marked with rock cairns and prayer flags. The top offers a tremendous panorama of snow peaks facing Nirekha, Lobuche peaks with Mt. Cho-Oyu towards far north-west. 

A slow downhill to Thagnak or Dragnak a small settlement located at the base of Cho-La within Gokyo valley. Thagnak for overnight halt, next to Ngozumba the longest glacier within Nepal Himalaya, where the beautiful valley of Gokyo starts.  

After a tough climb of the previous day, morning walk follows a gradual path to the first, and second lakes. Then finally walk leads to third the main lake of Gokyo, where all nice lodges are located. From this spot enjoy the grand views of massive Mt. Cho-Oyu that reflects on the simmering emerald Gokyo Lake.   

Enjoy marvelous scenery that surrounds Gokyo valley and the lakes, with views of the world’s 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyu towards the north. At Gokyo options for a hike to the top of Gokyo-Ri offers a grand panorama of the world’s four highest peaks.

From the top of Gokyo-Ri view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyu, which can be seen from Renjo-La also.

From Gokyo head for the last final pass of the adventure, as the walk follows towards the end of Gokyo Lake. A steep climb reaches you on top Renjo-La, facing a glorious panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyu with a range of peaks. On reaching the last third pass of the adventure, the rest of the journey on a gradual trail downhill to Thame. A sleepy farm village, located west of Namche and on route to Rolwaling valley as well towards Tibet border. At Thame with time enjoy a tour of the old monastery perched on top of the village, which offers grand mountain views.

After completing all three high passes, slowly our adventure comes to a near end, as walk follows on a scenic trail. The journey continues towards Lukla after Namche Bazaar with overnights in Monjo village, then reach Lukla for the last overnight stop. 

The next morning a short flight brings you back to Kathmandu, after a mesmerizing adventure on Everest Three High Passes Trekking.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner.

Day 2 : Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

In our day 2 in Kathmandu for trek preparation and tour at places of great interest around best historical and cultural places. Our city tour guide will take you to famous areas listed in World Heritage Sites like Swayumbhunath temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square , biggest hindu shrine Pashupatinath temple, biggest stupa Bouddhanath and then back to hotel after a wonderful time at sightseeing tour with time for preparation for next day trek to Annapurna base camp.Also we will have a meeting with trekking guide for briefing about whole trekking journey.

Day 3 : Fly to Lukla 2, 860 m and trek to Phakding 2,645 m - 04 hrs.

Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for short scenic flight to Lukla, a smaller model aircraft (Twin Otter or Dornier) enjoy 30 minutes flight overlooking Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest.

On landing at Lukla small airstrip named Tenzing - Hillary airport, from Lukla few hour walks downhill past Sherpa farm villages with views of Kwangde and Kusum Khanguru peaks. After a pleasant first day walk then reach Phakding village for overnight stop in a nice local lodge close to glacial Dudh Kosi River.

Day 4 : Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11, 350 feet - 06 hrs.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast as this will be a long day to Namche Bazaar, walk starts on gradual path, following the river upstream crossing bridges then enter Sagarmatha National Park near Monjo village.

Sagarmatha a Nepalese name for Everest, the Sherpa call Chomolungma in both languages means 'a Great Mother' from here a pleasant walk on a river bed with climb for some hour within forest lined with rhododendron and pine trees facing lovely views of snow peaks, as walk takes you to Namche Bazaar for two overnight stops. Namche one of the largest village a size of a town, lined with well-stocked stores and shops with many good restaurants, café’, banks and ATM facilities. Includes view of Kwangde and Tharmasarku.

Day 5 : At Namche for acclimatization and a short scenic hike to Everest view hotel and khumjung village.

A rest day at Namche Bazaar a perfect height for acclimatization at 3,440 m high important to spend extra nights at this altitude, before heading higher areas. At Namche to support acclimatization taka a short scenic hike above Namche for grand views of Everest and other high peaks.

Rest of the day relax and take a stroll on the streets of Namche an interesting place to browse around, especially on Saturday Market which is held once a week.

Day 6 : Trek to Tengboche 3,860 m - 05 hrs.

After an enjoyable rest day at Namche, morning walk starts with short up and then on gradual scenic trail and descend to Imjatse River for lunch stop at a small place called Phunge-Tenga. After lunch and refreshing break, afternoon starts with climb within cool shade of rhododendron, pines, fir forest with grand views of snowcapped peaks.

After few hours of scenic and strenuous climb reaching at Thyangboche Monastery area, here enjoy the marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kantega, Tharmasarku, Kwangde with magnificent Mt. Amadablam, afternoon with time to visit its interesting monastery and observe monks and priest on prayer. 

Day 7 : Trek to Dingboche 4,410 m - 05 hrs.

Morning walk downhill for an hour to a bridge, where tall tree lines drops for short juniper and rhododendron bushes which is called azalea, the view of Ama Dablam is superb on walk to Pangboche, the last permanent village on route Everest base camp.
As walk continues on gradual up after a short rest at Pangboche then stopping for lunch at Somare. From here onward into exposed wide windswept country. After an hour walk from lunch, route leads at a junction where Pheriche and Dingboche trail meets. Our trek follows east direction to cross a small bridge with last climb to Dingboche, located on a scenic Imjatse valley and close beneath Ama Dablam with grand view of Island peaks in the east.
Dingboche, a summer settlement for Khumjung, Pangboche villagers and a Yak grazing pasture as well growing barley, wheat and buck on a large field within its patch of stone walls to keep the animals off from grazing, due to mass arrival of trekkers Dingboche has many good lodges.

Day 8 : Rest day in Dingboche for acclimatization and short excursion.

At Dingboche another rest day for acclimatization, before heading towards our goal at Everest base camp, here options for short hike up to the hill called Nagarjun, rewards with excellent views of the valley and high snow-capped mountains includes Mt. Makalu in far east beyond Island Peak.

Day 9 : Trek to Chukung 4,730 m - 04 hrs.

After an enjoyable rest at Dingboche, today a short scenic walk on gradual scenic trail to reach right at the end of Imjatse Valley at Chukung, a pleasant walk although the rise in altitude makes the pace slower. As walk continues the grand views of high snow-capped peaks follows you to Chukung for lunch and overnight stop. Afternoon marvel the grand views of Lhotse, Lhotse Shar with closest look of Island Peak, for interested people with option for hike up to Chukung-Ri at 4,900 m high, offers grand panorama of high mountains that surrounds you on this high point.

Day 10 : Trek to Lobuche 4,940 m via Kongma La pass 5,545 m -08 hrs.

An early morning start at the break of dawn, as route leads above the valley floor the route diverts towards a wide gully, walk on rocky path, as climb takes you on top Kongma-La the highest pass of the adventure at 5,535 high, the top marked  with rock cairn and Buddhist colorful flags.

Kongma-La hidden by high Mehra and Pokalde peaks with great Nuptse wall, after a refreshing stop, a slow walk leads with long descend to Khumbu glacier, the path can be confusing on ice and rocky moraine, follow our lead guide on the safe route then a short steep climb reach you on a ridge. A short walk down to Lobuche a small settlement with many good lodges for overnight stop.

The lodge at Lobuche offers close views of Nuptse and Lobuche peaks, rest of the day with time to relax after a long tough day crossing the first pass of the adventure.

Day 11 : Trek to Everest Base Camp 5,364 m return to Gorakshep.

Start the morning walk on pleasant trail to Everest Base Camp, route follows on level path for sometimes and then short steep up to a small flat area. Where route to base camp diverts, time permitting short visit to Glass Pyramid a metrological station a joint venture of Nepalese and Italian scientist a project to study the weather and glacial movement of the Khumbu Himalayas. From here walk above Khumbu glacier to Gorakshep a place with few good lodges, located beneath lofty peak of Pumori and Kalapathar rocky hill. 

After a short break continue walk to Everest Base Camp, as route takes you over moraine and ice to base camp just below the mighty peaks of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse with close view of notorious Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers.

After a marvelous and exciting adventure of a lifetime experience retrace the journey back to Gorakshep for overnight stop.

Day 12 : Climb Kala Pathar 5,644 m trek to Dzongla 4,830 m - 05 hrs.

Early morning from the lodge at Gorakshep, a strenuous climb of few hours takes you on top of Kalapathar rocky hill at 5,643 meters high. The highest point of the trek offers incredible breathtaking panorama of giant mountains with close view of Mt. Everest. After a dramatic scenic moment descend to Gorakshep and continue trek downhill past Lobuche to Dzongla for overnight stop. 

Dzongla a small settlement with few lodge located at the base of Cho-La pass and close to Taboche and Cholatse peaks.

Day 13 : Trek to Thagnak / Dragnak 4,700 m via Cho La Pass 5,367 m - 08 hrs.

An early morning start to cross the second high pass of the adventure, from Dzongla, after a good breakfast walk on flat even path for sometimes. 

As climb begins with steep haul on rocky rough path with some icy sections as uphill continues to reach on top Cho-La. The pass festooned with prayer flags and stone cairn that marks the top, relax and enjoy the marvelous panorama of mountains that surrounds you.

After a hard climb, a steep descend takes at the bottom of the pass as walk leads over boulders and rocky trails to reach at Thagnak, also called as Dragnak, located at the eastern end of Gokyo valley close to Ngozumba the longest glacier within Nepal Himalayas. At Thagnak transfer into a simple cozy nice lodge, rest of the day relax and marvel the surrounding the beautiful scenery.

Day 14 : Trek to Gokyo main 3rd Lake 4,790 m - 04 hrs.

After a tough climb and long walk of previous day, today an easy moderate and short trek to Gokyo with the main 3rd Lake. Morning walk follows to Na, a small settlement of Yak herder, from here walk leads to a rocky trail around ablation valley to reach the first lake, as walk continues coming across second lake then finally reach the last third lake of Gokyo, also known as Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake. In early days before arrival of trekkers it was a summer pasture and grazing area for Yaks and high altitude domestic animals. At present due to flow of visitors Gokyo offers many good lodges within the shadow of massive peak of Mt. Cho-Oyu the world’s 06th highest with world highest 7, 000 m peak Gyachung Kang. At Gokyo check in of its best lodge for lunch and overnight stops.

Day 15 : Morning optional hike to Goyko-Ri 5,357 m afternoon at leisure.

Another rest day to regain energy for the last Renjo-La pass, morning with option for hike on top Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m, offers panorama of world’s four mountain range Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Cho-Oyu with Mt. Makalu, the same view can be seen from the top of Renjo-La Pass. On this full day relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery with short stroll around the lake side.

Day 16 : Cross Renjo La 5,360 m and trek to Lungden 4,380m - 07 hrs.

Get ready to cross the last and final high pass over Renjo-La, starting early morning having breakfast, on leaving the lodge walk towards the end of Gokyo Lake at the bottom of Renjo-La. After a short rest getting excited to get over the last pass, start with steep climb for some hour till Renjo-La top is reached.

From the high Renjo-La enjoy super panorama of towering snow-capped peaks with world’s four highest Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho-Oyu. On completing the last tough climb and over the 3rd pass of the adventure, a long downhill reach you to Lungden, a small settlement for overnight stop.

Day 17 : Trek to Thame 3,880 m -06 hrs.

Lungden also a summer grazing area for Yaks of the villages of Marlung and Thame, as well a major route to Tibet border with a high pass of Nangpa-La.

From Lungden, morning walk follows on a wide field heading downhill to Bhote Kosi River that flows from the mountains that borders with Tibet, as walk leads past Marlung farm village then reaching at Thame for overnight stop. Thame located on a windswept valley with views of Kongde mountain range.

A sleepy village, which falls on route to Tibet and towards Rolwaling valley via Tashi-Labtsa-La pass, on reaching Thame transfer to a nice lodge, rest of the day enjoy exploring around the village and visit Thame old monastery of great religious and cultural interest with long history of more than 500 years. 

Day 18 : Trek to Monjo 2,835 m via Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful time at Thame, walk leads towards east to reach Namche Bazaar and onward to Monjo village. As morning walk heads down to a river, then up to a ridge, from here on gradual winding wide path as walk enters green vegetation and tall tree lines of oaks, rhododendron, pines and firs.

Trek continuers past Thamo village, and then to Namche Bazaar for short refreshing break, from Namche with downhill to Dudh Kosi River, walk on the river bed to Jorsalle village to cross a bridge with short climb to National Park entrance. From here walk to Monjo village for overnight halt in a nice lodge.

Day 19 : Trek to Lukla - 04 hrs.

The last final day walk of the adventure, morning starts on pleasant trail crossing over a bridge, as walk follows to Phakding, from here few hours to Lukla as walk leads to few ups and downhill, and then a last hour climb to Lukla for last overnight stop in Khumbu and Everest region.

Day 20 : Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.

Morning as per the flight time walk to Lukla or Tenzing & Hillary airport, and then board in a small aircraft for exciting scenic flight to land at Kathmandu airport, and back within hustle and bustle city life in Kathmandu. On checking into your hotel rooms, rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 21 : International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, as per your international flight time our staff and guide will accompany you for a short drive to international airport for final departure, after a memorable adventure on Everest Three High Passes Trekking and around amazing Nepal.
