Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb, an adventure that takes you on top of Nepal’s highest trekking peaks. Chulu East stands at 6,584 m / 21,601 feet, above the beautiful Manang valley enclosed by an array of the snow mountain range. 
 
Chulu’s a group of mountains with main Chulu East, West, Mid, and Far East Chulu peaks, close to Pisang Peak. Chulu East Peak climbing options of two routes from Chulu West and then heading towards Chulu east peak base camp. The next option is taking the original trail heading high above Pisang village to Ngawal and Julu remote villages. Our adventure leads on the original and best trail, leading to hidden corners of Manang towards Chulu East Peak base camp.
 
Chulu East Peak climbing grade as PD + (Per Difficule), the grading from French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification System. The grade PD + means a straightforward climb encountering some technical challenges, climbing on rocks, ice and snow. A perfect peak for hardcore climbers and beginners in mountaineering, as the peak, provides all types of climbing skills.
 
Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb takes you from the low warm farm country of Lamjung district around Mid-West from Kathmandu. Where walk starts from the foothills towards the cooler region, within the shade of the lovely temperate forest. The adventure leads further North-West following the Masrsyangdi River upstream past Dharapani village and Chame the headquarter town of Manang area.  
 
From Chame then entering into a wild country around scenic Manang Valley at Pisang village, where Buddhism culture gets stronger. After Pisang village on leaving the main Annapurna Circuit trail towards our main destination at Chulu East Peak base camp. Overnight camping is made right beneath towering Chulu East and close to Chulu West and Mid Peaks.
 
Getting well organized with full preparations having both camps at the base and high camps with acclimatization days. The guide will scout the best possible route to make the climb safe and successful to the summit of Chulu East Peak.
 
After spending time at High Camp, then head for the big climb approaching over the rocky moraine of ice and snow. As the adventure continues with a steep climb using fixed ropes as a safety measure then reach on top Chulu East Peak summit.
 
Enjoy a mind-blowing panorama of Annapurna Himalayas and other Chulu peaks, with Damodar Himal from the top of Chulu East Peak. A slow steady descend to base camp, after succeeding our goal and highlight of the adventure.
 
From the base camp back to Manang valley on the main Annapurna Circuit trail, a lovely scenic walk to Manang village. The journey becomes much easier after a triumph conquering on top of Chulu East the highest trekking peak of Nepal.  
 
Walk from Manang takes you over the high Thorang-La pass at 5,416 m facing spectacular views of the surrounding snow mountain range. A great spot festooned with colorful prayer flags overlooking grand views of Dhaulagiri Himalayas, and then downhill to the Manang area. Our adventurous walk slowly comes to an end as the route leads to Muktinath, a famous pilgrimage holy spot. Thousands of Hindu devotees and pilgrimage visit here for worship at Muktinath temple, located on high windswept terrain. From Muktinath last day walk downhill to the wide plain of Kaligandaki River valley, as walk follows to Jomsom.
 
A large town and headquarter of Mustang district, the hub of Thakali people an indigenous tribe of Kaligandaki valley. Next early morning a short scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, a beautiful city as a well-renowned tourist spot.
 
Our wonderful adventure completes in Pokhara by its serene Phewa Lake, and then back to Kathmandu. After a memorable time and great experience on Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb.

Best seasons for Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb:
The best time for Chulu East Trek & Climb is in mid-spring and autumn, from March to May and September to November months. 

Springtime is lively with wildflowers, the rhododendron national flower of Nepal will be in seasonal bloom from March till May, one of the most favorable seasons where most days are clear for views and walks. 

The afternoon can get cloudy with chances of rain sometimes in lower and mid-hills, chances of snow around higher areas above 3,000 m high. Morning and late afternoon till night time can be cold on higher areas but days with longer sun-light hours. The next best time is in autumn from September to November, where days are crystal clear for views and walks. But days are shorter due to sun-light hours, temperatures drop to a cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime around higher elevation above 2,000 m, and might get snowed on trek some days.

Please Note:
The standard itinerary are just guidelines, some days of trekking and drives might lead us to change, due to the road and walking trail conditions. 
In May and June 2021, a massive flood and landslide damaged most of trails and motorable roads as well some bridges, especially around Chame, Tal and Dharapani village’s areas. However, construction is in progress to make the road and trail condition back to normal.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, received by our Epic Adventures staff and guide for short transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. After a short refreshing rest in your room then join with other group members for trek briefing, our expert guide will provides full information regarding the trek, culture, tour of Kathmandu at places of interest.

Evening a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurants with local folk cultural program entertains, while you have dinner. 

Day 2 : Tour of Kathmandu UNESCO heritage sites of great interest.

A day in Kathmandu for trek preparation and tour at places of great interest around best historical and cultural places. Our city tour guide will take you to famous areas listed in World Heritage Sites and then back to hotel after a wonderful time at sightseeing tour with time for preparation for next day trek and climb to Chulu East Peak.

Day 3 : From Kathmandu drive to Jagat 1,440 m via Syange 1,230 m- 07 hrs.

Start early morning after breakfast for long and interesting drive from Kathmandu towards Nepal Mid-West Himalayas. Overland journey takes you on the main Kathmandu / Pokhara highway for some hours, heading through farm villages and towns, and then our route diverts from the main road towards low farm area in Lamjung district. As ride continues to Besisar town and headquarter of Lamjung district. After a refreshing break drive continues following Masrsyangdi River to reach Syange.

From Syange farm village, then head towards winding up on hilly rough tracks to Jagat village for first overnight stop of the adventure, a nice village with views of beautiful water-falls.

Day 4 : Trek to Dharapani 1, 825 m - 06 hrs.

After first overnights at Jagat village, enjoy the breakfast and then start the morning with our first day walk above from Masrsyangdi River with gradual climb to Chamje village.

From Chamje onwards where you can notice more of Buddhism religion and culture. As walk progress cross a small bridge over Masrsyangdi River then into cool shade of mixed forest, and then a short climb to a high ridge as walk takes you to lunch stop at Tal Besi, a nice village situated on a valley within the entrance of Manang district.

Afternoon walk follows with slow climb and then on gentle winding path to Dharapani for overnight stop, from here onward within alpine region as air gets much cooler. Dharapani village located on the junction of Annapurna and Manaslu circuit routes.

Day 5 : Trek to Chame 2,710 m -05 hrs.

From Dharapani village, morning walk starts heading further North West as walk leads into nice woodland of blue pines, rhododendron and fir trees to Bagarchap and Danque villages. A nice place growing apples with many orchard gardens, enjoy views of Annapurna II and III with Lamjung Himal and Manaslu range of peaks. As walk leads to a steep up reaching at Timang, a lovely large village of mixed community hill tribes with Magar, Gurung and some Hindu Chettries and Bharamins.  

At Timang possible lunch stop, facing grand views of Annapurna and as far towards Manaslu range with Lamjung Himal. Afternoon walk of few hours to Chame for overnight stop, Chame a headquarter town of Manang district.

Day 6 : Trek to Pisang 3,115 m- 05 hrs.

After an enjoyable overnight stop in Chame, walk to cross Masrsyangdi River following a pleasant trail within cool shade of lovely forest of tall pine and rhododendron trees.

As walk continues to Bhratang village and then over a bridge with gradual climb to a ridge at Dukari Pokhari with few nice lodge and restaurants. A nice lunch spot facing views of Annapurna, Chulu and Pisang Peaks. After an enjoyable stop head downhill to a flat valley towards Pisang village for overnight stop. 

Where scenic and beautiful Manang valley starts, the village located below with the same name Pisang Peak.

Day 7 : Trek to Julu 3, 900 m past Ngawal village 3, 657 m - 06 hrs.

At Pisang village, after a pleasant overnight stop from here altitude gains as morning walk leads to higher terrain with windswept country.

Climb past upper Pisang village on leaving the main Annapurna Circuit trails for some days, as walk leads towards mountain wilderness climbing high above Manang valley then reaching at Ngawal village. A nice farm village with few good lodges on route to Nar Phu via Kang-La Pass. From here our route diverts further west with arid and dry area then reaching at small isolated Julu village on the trail to Chulu East base camp. At Julu overnight camp is set near the village on an open farm field and Yak grazing pasture.

Day 8 : At Julu village for acclimatization.

At Julu perfect height for rest and acclimatization day before heading towards Chulu East peak base camp. Here with time to relax and check the climbing equipment and explore around this wonderful wild country, facing grand views of Annapurna and Chulu peaks.

Day 9 : Trek to Chulu Base Camp at 5,300 m -04 hrs.

From Julu walk towards our main destination, as route leads higher and then crossing a small icy stream, then continue climb on steep ridge above the stream heading close beneath towering Chulu East Peak.

Setting our camp on a grassy field surrounded by huge boulder of rocks and moraine and glaciers. A nice spot to establish the base camp facing grand views of Chulu peaks with Annapurna Himalaya towards south.

Day 10 : Climb to Chulu East Peak high / advance camp 4, 955 m - 03 hrs.

Packing only the necessary clothing and equipment, the leaving the base camp for a short day of few hours. As climb leads to a steep up encountering ice and glaciers then reaching small wide space over rocks and ice at the bottom of Chulu East Peak to set our High Camp. Afternoon guide will scout the area of the climb for best safe and accessible route to the summit. As well fixing ropes and making ice ledges on necessary technical sections.

Day 11 : Climb of Chulu East Peak and descend to Base Camp.

Starting early morning before dawn towards our main highlight of the adventure follow our lead guide. As climb leads over rocky area towards a snowy slope with icy ridge, as climb gains negotiating some technical sections then last push reaches you on top of Chulu East Peak. Having a rest then enjoy fantastic panorama of giant peaks that surrounds you on top facing Annapurna-Damodar Himal with all group of Chulu peaks.

After a great adventure and big climb descent on the same route back to base camp feeling in high spirits and tired.

Day 12 : Trek to Julu village or further - 05 hrs.

On completing our major events and victory conquering the summit of Chulu East Peak, rest of the walk is easy on gradual trail towards Manang village. As walk leads to Julu village, time permitting walk further to make the next day trek shorter.

Day 13 : Trek to Manang 3,540 m- 04 hrs.

From the campsite, enjoy the grand morning panorama of Pisang with Chulu Peaks and Annapurna mountain range. Today’s walk takes you back on the main trail of Annapurna Circuit. On route to Manang village with time to visit the Braga Monastery, the oldest religious monument of Manang district. After an interesting tour of the monastery, enjoy scenic views of Himalayan peaks, as walk enters Manang village for overnight stop.

Manang the main village around the high valley where houses adorned with typical Tibetan style and culture, most of building serves as excellent lodges and restaurants. Afternoon at leisure visit around this nice village and enjoy the glorious scenery of high mountains that surrounds the Manang valley.

Day 14 : Trek to Yak Kharka 4, 110 m - 04 hrs.

Enjoying pleasant overnight in Manang village, walk starts heading west on gradual uphill trail facing views of Gangapurna Himal, as walk progress to Ghunsang a small settlement and then reach Yak Kharka for overnight stop.

Yak Kharka a summer grazing field for Yaks and other cattle, due to mass flow of trekkers over the years, Manang people has made a temporary settlement with fine houses serving as lodges and guest houses, a scenic spot with grand views Chulu West and Gangapurna with Tilicho peak. At Yak Kharka for lunch and overnight stop, with free afternoon for leisure walks and rest.

Day 15 : Trek to High Camp 4,900 m-04 hrs.

Another short day walk, but due to altitude gain makes the morning trek quite longer, as you leave Yak Kharka and reach Ledar another small place having few good lodges. From here walk on gradual path and then down to a stream with short climb as walk continues on gentle path to Thorang Phedi.

Phedi the bottom of the pass, here for refreshing stop and then last hour climb reach you at Thorang High Camp for lunch and overnight stop.

Day 16 : Trek to Muktinath 3, 800 m crossing high Thorang la pass 5,416 m / 17,700 feet - 06 hrs.

A Big day, having early breakfast then head towards the highest point of the adventure, walk follows on gentle path for sometimes and then a climb on winding ups to reach a small glacial ponds. From here another hour of good tough climb reach you on top Thorang-la Pass at 5,416 m / 17,700 feet.

At the top feeling tired and excited on reaching the highest spot, the pass is marked with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags and a sign board with the name of the pass and the height.

Enjoy dramatic panorama of all Chulu Himal peaks with Damodar Himal, includes great views of Annapurna Himalaya and Dhaulagiri Mountain range.

From the top on achieving our goal and the toughest day of the adventure, then a long downhill takes you at the bottom of Thorang-La around the district of Mustang. The Phedi on this side with few small shades serves as tea-houses, after a rest and probably for simple lunch stop, then a slow pleasant walk reach you at Muktinath area at the height of 3,800 m for overnight stop. 

Muktinath, a holy place for Hindu pilgrims as well for Buddhist followers, the word Muktinath means a place for ‘Nirvana or Liberation’. Having time for short tour of holy premises and walk towards the village for overnight stop in the comfort of nice cozy lodge, facing excellent views of Tilicho, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountain range. 

Day 17 : Trek to Jomsom 2, 715 m - 04 hrs.

Muktinath situated around Mustang area, where motorable has reached since past few decades. From here one can take the option of short drive of few hour to Jomsom, or enjoy last day trek. Walk leads down to Kaligandaki River valley. As walk continues towards Jomsom town for overnight stop.

Jomsom, headquarter town of Mustang district as well the main hub of Thakali people, the indigenous tribes of Lower Mustang and Kaligandaki River valley. Situated on Old Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet extends beyond Upper Mustang, this large town provides excellent comfort of lovely standard lodges and guest house. 

Day 18 : Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara 822m and transfer to hotel.

Early morning having hearty breakfast short walk to Jomsom airport where less than half hour flight in a small aircraft reach you to famous Pokhara, a leading and renowned touristic spot in the close shadow of Annapurna Himalayas with serene Phewa and Begnas Lakes.

On reaching Pokhara airport, then transfer to your hotel by the Phewa Lake, with time for tour of Pokhara or walk around the beautiful lake side.

Day 19 : Fly or drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Morning after a good breakfast an overland on the same scenic highway, where drive takes you past farm country, villages and towns as journey continues on leaving the Trisuli River behind where drive takes you on winding up to reach the suburb of Kathmandu valley. Enjoy the last hour drive as you enter into hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

(Option by air from Pokhara to Kathmandu a 30 minutes flight facing tremendous views of Himalaya range of peaks).

Day 20 : International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, as per your international flight time our staff and guide will accompany you for a short drive to international airport for final departure, after a memorable adventure and grand experience on Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb around Annapurna Himalaya and amazing Nepal.
